VFR cruising altitude rules (14 CFR 91.159) require aircraft above 3,000 feet AGL to fly:
A.
Any altitude — 91.159 only applies to IFR
B.
Odd thousands + 500 feet (e.g., 3,500; 5,500; 7,500) when on a magnetic course of 0–179°; even thousands + 500 feet when on 180–359°
C.
Even thousands + 500 feet eastbound and odd thousands + 500 feet westbound
